Understanding Conflicts: THE Ethnic Problems in The DRC.

We more often than not look at the News day in day out in a kind of lethargic zombie fashion and never quite understand why regional conflicts happen and where they are heading to so it is wise to try to understand what is going on in a certain region by probing into some historical aspects in order to shed some light into the whole scenario.
At this moment in time more t million inhabitants of the Democratic Republic of Congo have been displaced in the region of Kivu alone, along with thousands having been killed, maimed and raped due to Rebel Antics in the East of the country.
You will ask why this is happening? We all remember the horrors of the Rwandan Genocide that took place Between the Hutus and Tutsis which left 800,000 Rwandans dead of primarily Tutsi origin with no intervention from the Global Community to speak of. Well after the Genocide was finally over and a fragile peace was declared and put into motion the majority of Hutus from Rwanda fled into neighboring DRC for cover and creating their own Hutu Militia force. Now in Eastern DRC there is another Congolese Tutsi Origin rebel group that is also vying for power and insists it is protecting its Tutsi inhabitants. This conflict that is taking place now in DRC can easily be taken back into Rwanda and played out again.
Now along with help from the UN both the Presidents of the DRC and Rwanda are scheduled to meet to try to bring an end to this ethnic conflict in the DRC so there isn’t a repeat of the Rwandan Fiasco. There is one question here though. Has the World at Large acted too late here again as so many people have already died in this never ending conflict?
Have we as a civilization in the West really got our priorities wrong? Should we be spending millions on celebrities and stupid delinquent reality shows that fill our heads with complete rubbish? Or should more funds be ploughed into creating more Peace and stability in the World?

Well, if they’d cut us in on the diamond racket, or they had oil under their ground, we would’ve intervened…duh

Sorry to be so cynical…Rhino sleep now. :)
